So you have created an app for the Android market. That’s really cool. Why they don’t allow you to convert your revenue to GBP I don’t know. I guess you want to pay tax on what you earn each month/year. This really confused me, I did not know what to do. I thought because I was earning extra money from apps on top of my monthly salary that I would need to return a self assessment form. I got really stuck here as I needed a 10 digit UTR number which I did not have. Aaagghh. How do I do this for peace of mind because my app is staying on the market and it is doing OK and I am going to continue to make money and don’t want to be hit by a big tax bill one day. I want to be legit. I rang the HMRC and after a 30 minute wait lol, I spoke to a nice lady who advised me that if I had earned less than £2500 on top of my current salary I could just ring up at tell them the value of the extra money that I had earned from last April to the current April. As it happens it was £707.41. Tax on that is very low. Wow, that’s a lot easier than I thought I replied. It turns out they will just change your Tax code. Yes I pay a little more tax each month but the money I made from Ads is mine and I have peace of mind that spending it will not come back to haunt me someday.
I hope this helps anyone starting out in Android development. You don’t need to create a company or register yourself unless you do very well. Just give them a call if you want to have peace of mind. Going to spend my money on carpets for my house.
